Las Vegas Hotels meant big business. Hundreds of thousands of people visited this fabulous city everyday. And all of them needed a place to stay! Las Vegas Hotels began to be constructed after the Second World War, and that first string of resorts in the late 1940s sparked off a chain reaction. The race to build hotels was on!
Wilbur Clark, formerly a hotel bellman in San Diego, California set up the Desert Inn in 1950. What made it unique among existing Las Vegas Hotels was that it offered a panoramic view of all of Las Vegas from its third-floor Skyroom, a cocktail lounge and dancing place for visitors, residents and even celebrities.1952 saw Milton Prell’s Sahara Hotel, built on the site of the former Club Bingo. In 1955, the Riviera became the first high-rise hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. It was nine stories high, outstripping the view offered by the Desert Inn.
In the 1950s, the Las Vegas Strip saw hotels like the Royal Nevada, Dunes, Hacienda, Tropicana and Stardust hotels come up. Downtown Las Vegas saw the opening of the Fremont Hotel-Casino. The Moulin Rouge Hotel-Casino opened in 1955, catering to people of all races. At the Las Vegas strip, black entertainers had to live off the premises while black guests were not welcome to stay, and the Moulin Rouge Hotel-Casino stepped in.
In order to fill the need for a Las Vegas convention facility, a 6,300-seat, silver-domed rotunda with an adjoining 90,000-square- foot exhibit hall one block east of the Las Vegas Strip opened in April 1959 on the site of the current Las Vegas Convention Center. In 1990, the silver dome was demolished to make room for an expanded 1.6-million-square-foot facility with an exhibit space of 1.3 million square feet, making it the largest single-level convention centre in the world!

JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort, Spa & Golf is one of the best places to reside in, if you are looking for peace and quiet but with all the facilities you would expect from top class Las Vegas hotels. The rooms are large and luxurious. The pool is huge, but less crowded compared to its counterparts in strip such as Mirage, Caesars or MGM. The spa is cool and the food is delectable.
Candlewood Suites Las Vegas is an extended stay hotel away form the strip, not too far though. Part of the Intercontinental Hotels chain, each room has a mini kitchen with fridge, stove and microwave. The lobby is open round the clock. It is close to Hard Rock Café, a great eatery.

Some Las Vegas hotels haven’t always been the way they are today. The dynamic, creative energy of the place often gives history a makeover, replacing old hotels and resorts with new ones, and changing the face of Las Vegas Hotels. As they saw in show-business, the show must go on!
La Rue's Restaurant was bought by Texas gambler and oilman Jake Freedman, and his partners Jack Entratter, and Carl Cohen. The trio had originally wanted to build a resort of their own, but since they didn’t get a building permit, they did the next best thing. That was how one of the most prestigious Las Vegas Hotels, the Sands, opened on December 15, 1952. In 1967 Howard Hughes bought The Sands. Under his ownership, the Sands earned the sobriquet “Queen of the Strip." In 1981, The Pratt Corporation took over the Sands, as the Summa Corporation had to sell it on account of the Hughes estate being too widespread. In 1983, when the Pratt Corporation found itself in financial difficulties, Summa repossessed the property. Kirk Kerkorian purchased the Sands in 1988, and renamed it MGM Sands. Though the Sands was meant to be restored to its former glory, it kept failing; until finally it was shut down on November 26, 1996
But The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino took its place, as the first all-suites hotel on the Strip. The romance, old-world charm and festival-like atmosphere of the charming canal town of Venice in Italy were captured with striking statuaries, hand-painted frescoes, and recreated historic Venetian landmarks and palaces. In the summer of 1999, a special version of London’s Madame Tussaud's Waxworks Museum opened at the Venetian. Madame Tussaud's Celebrity Encounter has five theme environments with over 100 specially crafted wax figures of some of the most popular film, television, music and sports celebrities, as well as legendary Las Vegas icons. This is just one of the many stories of how Las Vegas Hotels have thrived over the years, cutting its losses and creating new success stories, by the simply expedient of replacing one icon with another.
